1. For any location of India, plan your travel at least a month or two in advance to get a confirm railway ticket or avail low price air ticket like INDIGO, SPICE JET and a choice hotel at your destination.
2. Can book air, railway on line at ticket booking sites like www.makemytrip.com , yatra.com etc. or can book tickets directly at www.indianrail.gov.in, www.goindigo.in,
3. For booking tickets (railway or air), one needs to have a debit or credit card, which all of the nationalized and Private banks of India are providing, even one can use ITZ cash card and an email ID is required to get e booking done.
4. If you have net banking facility, then you can book ticket from any cyber café or your own desktop /laptop at office or home, without going to a travel agent or standing in the queue of railway station. Cyber cafes are avaible even in all small towns across india of 25-50K population.
5. Kindly note all the airlines have their own sites like railway and one can directly book ticket with or without registration in their site. www.goindigo.in, www.airindia.com etc.
6. One can search the best option for traveling (time , price, connectivity etc) at www.makemytrip.com , www.yatra.com or www.rediff.com sites.
7. Tatkal service in railway is now available just before 2 days of travel by paying little high charges and now price of tatkal service reduced in comparison to earlier years.
8. Rajdhani express are good trains run to Delhi from all the state capitals, they take care of food, bedroll and also run very fast and punctual, similarly satabdi trains are also very fast, neat and clean and punctual mostly.
9. Garib rath (GR) Express is a low cost full 3rd AC trains mostly over night journey connecting different cities. Mostly not having pantry services and Rs.25/- charged for providing bed roll. Some GR express also have AC seating along with 3rd AC sleepers.
10. There are other express, superfast trains quite good too with pantry and other services always look for Indian railway site for seat confirm status.
11. Net banking is safe and easy tool for e payment, now all the account need to be registered as per RBI guideline for safe transaction.

In India all the major cities are also connected by AC Volvo buses, which are really comfortable and good for travelling over night journey if u have not booked train ticket earlier or have a sudden change of plan. These tickets can be purchased at Bus stations from different private (ex: national travels, raj travels )and corporation counters ( APSRTC, DSRTC etc)
13. Even one can purchase on line bus tickets from ticket service providers like www.redbus.in, www.makemytrip.com, www.yatra.com etc. Same credit or debit card can be used and e-tickets can be received on your email ID.
14. One needs to carry the print out of e tickets of Bus, train or flight and an identity proof for verification.
15. Identity proof can be one of these driving license, PAN card, voter identity card, Passport or identity card issued by any government, corporate bodies etc.
16. One can book hotels on line too, you can search for your hotel at make my trip or similar website and book hotel by using credit, debit cards and net banking facility.

All these booking confirmation of air, hotel, bus tickets are also SMSed by few of the service providers, so in case u miss the hard copy /print out of ticket or confirmation sheet, can just show the SMS of the airline or service provider and get your boarding card. Hence u required to carry a mobile phone along with you.
18. If u have GPRS enabled cell phone, u can book tickets from your cell phone itself, instead of carrying a laptop or going to any booking agent or cyber café. Hence u need to enable this service from your service provider ( BSNL, VODAFONE, AIRTEL etc)
19. Most metros have different cabs like radio cab, city cab, ornage cab, green cab. Details about these can be searched at google search. These cabs are very convenient, comfortable ( AC and non AC) and they charge per KM basis and provide a receipt for their service. Some time they provide print bills after end of journey from a palm top like machine put inside the cab itself. They have also GPRS enabled system and backhand monitoring mechanism by the central server, hence chance of being hijacked by the driver is minimum. One needs to call at least 2 hours before actual journey to the specific number (ex 44454647). They also charge point to point means from the point of picking to point of dropping.
20. Pre paid normal taxi service are also available at railway stations, airports which are cheaper than above mentioned cabs and normally non AC type and little uncomfortable too.
21. Auto service are also available across India at all bus station, railway and at some airport too. Some places they run by meter and some places they run on pre decided price, one needs to understand how much distance and what is the per KM rate prevalent in that particular place and negotiate the price with auto driver. Some cities have started giving identity card and putting detail about the driver Like his name, cell phone number fixed in front of the back seat.
22. In case of any trouble like cheating, one can call police at 100.
23. In some cities 104 and 108 medical emergency service is available to carry accident victims to nearby hospitals. So one can call 108 medical emergency service for that purpose.
24. Carrying dry food, medicine and water is utmost important along with your dress and other private requirements. For a journey of 5-7 days one needs to carry basic medicines for cold, fever, indigestion, headache, back ache, tooth ache etc. and bandage + ointments for cut and allied things.
25. If you are going for a hill station or going to a cooler place carry some light /heavy winter clothes depending on the season.
26. One can see the place on internet by going to google search about the importance points to visit, can read some blogs by the previous visitors and their feed back, so that on can plan how much time is required to be spent at the place to be visited.

Hotels are of various type and they charge a range of prices for their rooms, now one can know previously on internet sites like makemy trip or one can use the local contact ( the people who are staying there or who have visited earlier) different state tourism department also have beautiful cottage, restaurants and place for accommodation at important tourist destination.

Eat local dishes and can also search for your interest food like if u want a south Indian food or a Bengali food, gujarati thali all the important tourist destination have different restaurants for these kind of food with different price range, getting Italian, French or other intercontinental food is sometime easy and at times difficult depending on how many such tourists come to that destination. Most restaurants provide price information in their menu card and service tax of 12% is chagred over and above the price. Most accepted currency is Indian rupees across India, if u have dollar, euro, Pound or any other foreign currency, pl take steps to convert it into local indian rupee before going to remote location. Many toursit destination has money exchange private vendors and also many banks have counters for this service.
30. South and east tourist destinations in India are generally cheaper in comparison to North, west and north east tourist sites.
31. Carry a good camera to capture the thrilling and unique moments of your life, don’t forget to carry the charger for your camera, cell phone etc.

Carry light luggage bags with some space from your point of starting journey, if you are going with your family and you both love shopping therapy then you may require one more bag to purchase at your destination to carry the extra purchased items, at least no one genrally come back with the same luggage without adding a few. Because across India the handcrafts, saree, dress materials, food items, gift materials are unique and priced little lower side that one tends to be falling into the trap of purchasing new items.
33. Going in a group is always good, as one can support another in case of a health and other emergency, also it is enjoyable. Cost wise also sometimes it lowers for sharing hired vehicles etc.
